The LJWC is run by an executive board consisting of six elected officers who appoint chairwomen for our standing committees. All members serve on one of the main committees and participate in at least one fundraising project each year.
Our main committees are:
Ways and Means -
The Ways and Means committee raises money to support the club's philanthropic endeavors by planning and conducting fundraisers. This year's event will be held in the spring on Saturday, May 4. It will involve a fun filled evening that includes music and food and various raffles/auctions. Our committee will be the planners and organizers of this event.
Philanthropies -
The Philanthrophies Committee is responsible for helping out where there is a need in our community-and sometimes beyond the boundaries of the Lemont area. Whether it be our monthly donation to the Lemont food pantries and Meals on Wheels, remembering an underprivileged child on their birthday or at Christmas, helping their entire family with a meal or a basket of household products, to financially supporting a Scout with their Gold or Eagle Award project, to donating money in support of medical research or another worthy cause, the Lemont Junior Woman’s Club is there! The Philanthropies Committee also directs club funds to worthy large scale projects that benefit the entire community. Previous projects include the construction of Lemont Safety Village and the Lemont Junior Woman’s Club playground. The 2011 project invested in our future by funding Lemont public and private school’s needs.
Membership -
The Membership Committee organizes social activities for the club, Sunshine Meals for LJWC members who experience a life-changing event, the Membership Yearbook and Installation Dinner of the new board. They also arrange a memorial tree ceremony and a library book dedication. The newsletter, press releases and the website updates are handled by the group as well. When a new member wants to join the club, this is the group of ladies to talk to!
Education -
The Education Committee is involved in creating a space to instill the joy of life-long learning within the LJWC and the local community. This mission is achieved by providing a monthly report at the meeting, which provides information about health, family, local, national issues and occasional fun topics. We also work with the local police department in providing essay readers for the DARE program within the schools. Some of our currently scheduled events for our committee are Kopz n Kidz Day, ABC Garden Planting, DARE Essay reading and judging, Parenting Classes, and monthly reports on important national and local issues and some “quirky” stuff, too.
Public Relations -
Public Relations is a fun, creative, and flexible committee that partners closely with all LJWC committees to help create community awareness about our Club and General Federation, both externally and internally throughout the entire year. Our goal is to create a positive image of the LJWC, and familiarize our members, and the Lemont community, with our history, mission, and current initiatives through various media outlets; such as, newspaper, website, Channel 6, village newsletter, the Junior’s Journal and club emails. We also brainstorm and execute innovative ideas in a fun, light-hearted, “team” environment, while fostering our friendships.
Safety Village Programs -
The Safety Village committee is responsible for organizing several Safety Village programs throughout the year. These programs help educate and protect the children of Lemont. They include Safety Village Summer Camp, Campus Fighting Chance and Safe Sitter.
Juniorettes -
The Lemont Juniorettes Committee consists of girls between the ages of 12 to 18 who meet in order to perform community services, fundraising and social activities. Some examples of Juniorettes’ projects include: straightening the Hope Closet, maintaining the Birthday Closet for children of domestic violence victims at Crisis Center for South Suburbia, selling raffle tickets at Lemont High School football games, serving meals at Ronald McDonald House and sponsoring a house at Halloween Hoedown.
Community Outreach - The community outreach committee can be found hosting a Halloween party at the Franciscan Village, and organizing Breakfast with Santa at Cog Hill. They also help to judge the DARE essays and they are the committee to award scholarships to citizens of Lemont that are High School Seniors. They will be organizing the spring food bags for the needy families as well as the baskets of basics in the fall. When The Quarryman Challenge hits the streets of Lemont these ladies will organize a group of volunteers to work a water station.
Membership Dues are $50 per year.
