Kelly Award

The Kelley AwardThe LJWC has always rewarded its members who go above and beyond the norm in their volunteerism to their club, school, church or community. Past presidents have had many different names for this award. Sometimes it was given monthly or as the president and membership committee saw fit. But with the passing of one of our members that daily lived this strong sense of selflessness, it only seemed a fitting final tribute to a very special lady and in the spring of 2002, the “Kelly Award” was conceived.

Kelly Mason was a life long resident of Lemont. She went to school here, fell in love here and raised her family in the little town she saw grow into the bustling community we know today. Not only did she and her husband Tom raise their two daughters in this village, but through her job as a real estate agent Kelly helped many obtain their “American Dream” of owning a home in a place she loved. She also extolled the virtues of belonging to the LJWC to those new residents and anyone she knew. She was on every sign-up sheet that went around at our meetings and volunteered countless hours with little fanfare of attention to her in the nine years in the club. Even after she was diagnosed with cancer, she continued to volunteer for what she could. She was an inspiration to those that were close friends and casual acquaintances. So inspired by her volunteerism, others volunteered in her place when she was no longer physically able. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, sense of humor and genuine kind spirit.

Kelly Award

When a member receives the “Kelly Award” it will recognize her service efforts that go above and beyond the chairing of one event or extra volunteering in a month’s time. It will reward her for capturing the essence of Kelly, always giving more than what is expected with a positive attitude, promotion of the good of the club, teamwork mixed with a devilish humor and love of community.

The LJWC is proud to recognize those women that share Kelly’s zest for life and are the embodiment of her spirit with volunteerism in their club an community. In recognition of their award, a $20.00 donation will be made to “The Random Acts of Kindness Fund.” The fund was established by Kelly’s husband upon her death to perpetuate Kelly’s giving spirit to those in need be it monetary, spiritual, or benevolent. The recipients of these “Acts of Kindness” are only asked to pass it on thus perpetuating Kelly’s memory, The recipients of the “Kelly Award” will also receive a $5.00 donation to perform her own “Random Act of Kindness.”
