The Lemont Junior Woman’s Club is a local philanthropic volunteer organization. The club is made up of women in the community who are dedicated to raising funds and volunteering for the betterment of Lemont and the surrounding communities. The LJWC is offering three $1500 Volunteer Scholarships to high school seniors or adult women returning to school who live in Lemont. This scholarship can be used for tuition, room and board, books, or other educational purposes. The winner will be selected on a broad range of criteria, including volunteerism, community service, essay and academic performance. If you would like to apply, complete the application and answer the essay question. Essays should be typed double-spaced and no more than 500 words in length. Please do not put your name on the essay page itself. In addition to the application and essay, please provide two letters of recommendation. These should be either submitted in sealed envelopes, or mailed directly to the LJWC. Recommendations may come from a principal, school counselor, teacher, employer or volunteer supervisor. Please do not have relatives write recommendations. References will be cross-checked, so please include phone numbers on the application. Entries should be returned to the Lemont Junior Woman’s Club, P.O. Box 563, Lemont, IL 60439, and must be postmarked by Friday, April 09, 2010. The scholarship recipients will be notified in May, and the winning essays may be published in the local newspapers. |
